Older Adult Services

Jewish Family & Vocational Service licensed professional staff provides services to older adults and their families. A wide range of services aims at maintaining a person's independence, while offering the family support and respite. Family counseling, caregiver support groups and intergenerational counseling are provided.

Specific programs for older adults include:

SOCIAL ADULT DAY CARE: JFVS offers two different social adult day programs to assist caregivers and provide respite to families.Elderday at Edison is a program for those with Alzheimer's disease and other related disorders; CAMEO (Challenging Adult Minds and Energizing Ourselves) is a program for alert adults with physical disabilities.

FRIENDLY VISITORS: JFVS' Friendly Visitors are matched with homebound adults in their neighborhoods. These volunteers provide weekly visits and daily calls. They may help the older adult by providing companionship and a warm interactive relationship. An assigned social worker is immediately notified if a problem arises.

STAR — for those living independently: JFVS' STAR (Strengthening Adult Resources) provides comprehensive assessments, care management, and referral services coordinated by a licensed geriatric social worker to address the needs of older adults wanting to remain in their own homes as long as possible.

CHAT (Counseling Homebound Adults by Telephone): In addition to providing counseling in the office for seniors and/or their family members, JFVS offers a program that links people together for weekly telephone support sessions, which are facilitated by a JFVS staff member.

KOSHER MEALS ON WHEELS: JFVS provides two kosher meals daily, six days per week, to housebound older adults. Each participant in this program receives a comprehensive assessment by a social worker to assure that his or her needs are being met.
